After witnessing the lack of dignified care that her mother, Dame Dorothy Tutin experienced during her treatment for leukemia, Amanda was compelled to make a film that would highlight the need for respect for the elderly, selling her flat to fund it! Her award winning, powerfully emotional film ‘What Do You See?’ starring Virginia McKenna, has been used in dignity trainings around the world since. Amanda is recognised as the foremost inspirational speaker, film maker and writer on dignity, compassion and end of life care in this country. She has been a keynote speaker at over hundreds of conferences both in the UK and abroad and leads many workshops, as well as regularly speaking on TV and radio about her campaigning for dignity and improved care for all. Recent TV/ radio interviews include Sky news, Women’s hour, Start the week, BBC breakfast, Radio 5 live. Amanda has been interviewed by Sir Michael Parkinson as a fellow Dignity in Care Ambassador and in 2006 Amanda held her dignity in care conference with the greater London forum. Amanda’s work is recommended by the British journal of nursing and the Royal College of nursing and she sits on many advisory boards, including the Governments Dignity Board for which she instigated the dignity in care campaign which now has over 50,000 dignity champions. She regularly supports projects and is Patron of the Lewis manning hospice, Action on elder Abuse Lancing and Symposium. Amanda was the Dignity Presenter for Aged Care TV and in 2009 she was asked to launch the Dignity in care awards for the government and she also launched Dying Matters on BBC Breakfast. In 2010, Amanda completed three more short films to complement What Do You See? Home, The Big Adventure and No regrets which look at transitions into care, end of life care and the grief and loss.
